Victoria Balika: A passion for sustainability

Some people step into an organization and instantly bring energy, curiosity and a sense of optimism. Victoria Balika is one of those people. At 27, with an impressive background in global studies and sustainability development, she has quickly become an important part of Axjo’s journey toward a more circular future. Victoria has built a strong combination of academic expertise and valuable leadership experience.

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE THAT BUILT STRONG FOUNDATIONS

During her years at Jönköping University, she was deeply involved in student life, serving both as chair of the student association and as general of the Jönköping Student Union. These roles equipped her with sharp tools for understanding and navigating both people and complex systems.

Today, Victoria works at Axjo as a Sustainability Developer, a role where no two days look the same.

“My role is quite fluid, but you could say I am more commercially oriented and support the sales department in sustainability-related matters. I also work extensively with our sustainability report and areas such as Ecovadis, climate calculations and EU legislation. Since our department is connected to almost every part of the organization, the work becomes incredibly varied.”

A QUICK DECISION TO JOIN AXJO

It was actually a friend who encouraged her to apply for the position, and the decision was made quickly. “I fell for Axjo immediately and haven’t regretted it for a single second,” she says. After an introduction program in June 2024, Victoria started full-time in August and has since made a clear impact on the organization. What she appreciates most about her work is the dynamic environment and the fast pace that characterizes both the role and the field of sustainability.

The sustainability landscape evolves rapidly, and Axjo is far ahead in its sustainability journey, something Victoria finds both inspiring and enjoyable. She particularly values the opportunity to work in both national and international contexts, where diverse perspectives and a wide range of interactions offer continuous learning and development.

FINDING MEANING THROUGH CIRCULARITY AND COLLABORATION

What makes the work most meaningful for her are the meetings with customers and other stakeholders who share the same ambition. Inspiring others to take the step toward circularity means a great deal to her. She is convinced that the business sector must shift to ways of working that do not strain the planet’s resources, and she sees Axjo as a company actively driving that transition, which makes her role especially significant.

When asked what advice she would give to new colleagues, she doesn’t hesitate:

“Be yourself, dare to ask questions and don’t be afraid to take initiative!

With her dedication, expertise and drive, Victoria is a key force in Axjo’s ongoing sustainability work and an inspiration to colleagues both within and beyond the organization.
