About us
Axjo has toghether with HUBER+SUHNER launched a pilot project in Germany, to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption. The plastic cable drums used to transport cables to customers are collected, reused and recycled.
HUBER+SUHNER recognises the importance of collaboration – especially with partners in the value chain – to achieve its own sustainability goals, as well as those of its customers and suppliers. In the first phase, the collaboration offers HUBER+SUHNER customers in Germany a free collection service for empty cable drums, regardless of their condition. After collection, Axjo carries out a quality control, during which damaged drums are repaired and can then be reused up to eight times. At the end of their life cycle, the cable drums are granulated and processed into new ones.
"Sustainability is an integral part of our company strategy and thus leads to innovative solutions with partners like Axjo. By returning, repairing, or recycling the drums, material consumption, waste, and emissions are reduced. This is an important step towards a circular economy and resource conservation," says Lana Ollier, Head Global Sustainability & Environment at HUBER+SUHNER.
"Our goal at Axjo is to make circularity both practical and scalable. By collaborating with HUBER+SUHNER, we close the loop on plastic drum usage for their customers, transforming waste into valuable resources while helping our partners meet their climate targets," says Victoria Balika, Sustainability developer at Axjo.
The circular economy is becoming increasingly important and is also relevant for our cable drums.
Axjo cable drums are made from 100 % recycled materials, making them an environmentally friendly
choice without compromising on quality. Drums can typically be reused up to eight times, making their integration into a circular system an obvious choice. By returning, repairing, or recycling empty cable drums, you help reduce material consumption, waste, and emissions – thereby lowering your company’s environmental impact.
The pilot project with HUBER+SUHNER is initially being launched in Germany. Axjo has, for many years, been actively engaged in the return and recycling of cable drums in Sweden and Finland, where fully developed programs are already in place. Read more about our return system here.
